What is "Training" and why do I need it?

Team members will allowed to return to the unit for the Instructional weekend (the Saturday following the Weekend.  However members will not be allowed back for monthly meetings or the weekly prayer and share meetings until they have received the State of Texas mandated training.  The men count on seeing team members following the weekend and it is very important you be allowed to return.

In order to take the training you must have submitted an application and received a letter from the Texas Department of Corrections approving you for training.  The letter from TDC is proof that you have passed a security check and do not have any reason not to be allowed back in prison.

Once you have received your training it generally takes about two weeks for TDC to "enter" your name in their computer.  Once that is done you can visit any unit in Texas where that unit's chaplain gives his OK!!!!!.  This means you will not be allowed into Hughes until you have been placed on the Hughes List even though you are on the state list.  Please be sure to follow up on this after you have had your training.

The TDC is suffering a serious understaffing problem right now, mistakes are being made all the time, and you should expect that there will be problem with this process.  You are advised to keep separate records if possible and to expect problem the first time you come back after being trained.  We have had men drive six hours for a Saturday meeting who have not been allowed in because they are "not on the list."  Please shoe compassion for the employees of TDC and remember why you are going inside.
