Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The first team meeting for Kairos Hughes 12 is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, at Dripping Springs United Methodist Church. DSUMC is located on Ranch Road 12 in Dripping Springs, one mile north of the intersection with US 290. The church’s phone number is (512) 894-7123. We will be meeting in the Family Life Center, which is the first building (with a gym) on the right as you approach the church from Highway 290. We will begin gathering at 9am and the meeting will begin at 9:30am. The meeting will end at approximately 3:30pm.

Coffee and tea will be provided throughout the day. Please bring a snack and cold drinks to share with the team. We will be having lunch at about 12 noon. The menu is brisquet and all the trimmings, prepared and served by the Dripping Springs United Methodist Men. The UMM are asking for a donation of $5, to cover the cost of the meal and to help support UMM ministries and projects.

We will begin the meeting with singing, prayer, and introductions of team members. The theme of the morning session is Vulnerability. The scripture for the session is John 13:34-35.

The theme for the afternoon session is Servanthood. The scripture for this session is Matthew 20:26-28.

Please write both scriptures on a 3X5 car and read and meditate on them each day before the meeting.

Now is not too soon to apply for TDCJ Volunteer Training for new team members. This training is required for you to be able to enter the Hughes Unit after the Hughes 11 Weekend. TDC Volunteer Services Training Applications can be downloaded from the Kairos Hughes Website, which is listed above. There will be copies available at the meeting also, but new volunteer are encouraged to go ahead and send in your training application.

Also as a reminder, if you haven’t returned your team application or corrected information sheet to me, please do so. If you aren’t able to mail it before the meeting, please bring it with you. If there are no corrections needed on your information sheet, please write "no changes" on it and get it to me, so we will know your information is correct.

Finally, I ask that you continue to be in prayer for Hughes 11, including the candidates, team, and prison staff. I ask you to pray for me as I will be praying for you.
